The Greene County Historical Society is hosting their monthly event later this week.
Grand Junction resident Alan Robinson will present a program on “the county tournament era of girls’ basketball” in Greene County. He will cover girls basketball from 1922 to 1962. In the 1920’s there were eight high schools in Greene County that had girls basketball programs in Jefferson, Scranton, Grand Junction, Rippey, Cooper, Dana, Paton and Churdan. After 1962, a lot of the schools consolidated and the county tournaments had come to an end.
President Ces Brunow says they try to travel to each of the cities in the County for their monthly programs. Each program is either a topic relating to that community or something of interest for their members.
This Friday’s free program will be at 1pm at the United Methodist Church in Grand Junction on Friday, August 7th. A lunch will be provided preceding the program at noon for $8. RSVP’s for the meal must be made by Wednesday by calling 515-360-8046.
