The transition from high school athletics to college athletics can be a difficult one for many. Former Perry linebacker and current Luther standout Jackson Van Kirk will agree. The junior will be making a push for a starting linebacker spot when the Norse open up camp in a couple of weeks.
“The biggest thing for me was discovering a way to drive yourself. Unlike high school, no one else is around to push you and stay on you to get things done. You have to be a self-motivator at this level. I made a decision to be as good as I can on the football field and to be as good as I can in the classroom. You find what works for you and you do it. It’s worked out well for me here at Luther.”
Van Kirk is excited for the arrival of a new college football season.
“Hard to believe that camp is right around the corner. Hopefully I will lock one of the starting spots and get ready for the season. It won’t be easy because we have a lot of talent and strong players and personalities. I like the challenge and am looking forward to it.”
