In light of damage from June’s major storms and flooding, President Obama has signed off on a disaster proclamation that gives Guthrie and Dallas county entities access to federal benefits. Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says the declaration means little to private citizens, but should provide financial assistance in repairing public infrastructure.
“That makes Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance available to municipalities, the county for things like secondary roads, schools and hospitals. It doesn’t have anything to do with individual citizens.”
Additionally, Kempf adds that private citizens in Guthrie, Adair and Dallas counties can still make a claim for uninsured damages from the June storm through the state’s Individual Assistance Plan. Residents who are within 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or below an annual income of $40,180 for a family of three, can apply for up to $5,000 in assistance to help pay for repairs, replacements or the cost of temporary housing. Applications for the late June storms are due by August 14th.
Guthrie County residents who received damage from flooding on July 28th are also eligible to file a claim through the Individual Assistance Plan. That claim is due September 17th, 2015.
