Former Perry football standout Gabe Saemisch seemed to catch everybody off guard last year….even the Luther coaches.  Entering Fall camp last year, the junior out performed everybody in front of him on the depth chart and earned the opening game start against Simpson.  He never looked back as he finished 2014 third on the Luther tackle chart with 59 plus one interception.

“Last year went really well for us,” smiled Saemisch.  “I went into Fall camp 4th on the depth chart and came out of camp as a starter and on top of the depth chart.  It was one heck of a camp for me.  We started the season really well going 4-0 in the first 4 games.  As the season progressed, I battled some nagging injuries late in the year but was able to push through them and finish the season.  Our team ended up .500 which was 3 more wins than the previous year.  We’re hoping to do even better this year.”

Saemisch started every game at corner back last year for Luther and shared his secret for such a strong camp last summer.

“I really made an off-season commitment to the weight room and my diet.  I woke up every morning at 5:30 and worked as hard as I could.  I put in the necessary time in the off-season and really showed up at camp ready to compete.  I’ve tried to carry that same intensity into my senior year this season.”

Luther College is located in Decorah, Iowa.
