If you would talk to a lot of college coaches, they would tell you the same thing in regards to a wrestling background. Most college football coaches love a high school wrestling resume due to the mental discipline and training the sport requires. Current Iowa State linebacker Kane Seeley was a two time state wrestling champion in Iowa. Seeley credits former wrestling coaches Steve Hamilton and Trevor Kittleson for instilling a work ethic has made the transition a smooth one.
“I was really fortunate to go through some intense wrestling training with a couple of good coaches,” laughed Seeley. “Our workouts start at 5:30 in the morning here in Ames and we do a lot of repeat cycles with an emphasis on conditioning. Its summer, it’s really hot and the repeating, rotational cycling reps get to a lot of guys. It’s really no big deal to me. I’m used to that type of training so it kind of his old hat for me.”
Seeley and the Cyclones open up the season September 5th at 7 pm at Jack Trice Stadium.
