Earlier this week Guthrie County voters decided to keep Plan 3 as their selected method of electing County Supervisors. A petitioning group of bipartisan citizens pushed for Plan 2, but ultimately failed, garnering only 45% of the vote. Board of Supervisors Chairman Tom Rutledge says he would have welcomed the change to Plan 2, adding that it would make Supervisors more accountable. “I was in favor of Plan 2, which would have had Supervisors elected at large. I guess my reasoning on that favor was, all other elected officials in the County, besides the Supervisors, are elected that way. I feel on a day-in-day-out basis, you answer to everybody in the County as a Supervisor, and you make tax dollar decisions for the whole County. I showed favoritism in that sense towards Plan 2.”
Rutledge says if the issue comes up again, he’ll continue to support Plan 2. We’ll recap the election with Rutledge today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
