The Perry Police Department will soon have a new sally port thanks to a grant and partnership with a local communications company.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says this will be very beneficial in protecting equipment.
“This will be a great deal for the police department. This is going to help us build mostly the shell of the sally port and that helps us get all of the police cars and their equipment inside and out of the weather. That really helps us protect the equipment inside because there is an extraordinary amount of equipment that goes on inside of a cop car.”
Peterson says the funds come from a United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant.
“It actually gets paid to Minburn Telecommunications, they applied for the grant and we were just in support of it. So that goes back to Minburn and they create a revolving loan fund for economic development projects in their service territory.”
Peterson says the structure should be up by next winter at the latest.
