Summer programs in the Perry School District went well, according to the organizer’s reports to the School board at their meeting Monday.
“It was a good summer and we have quite a few services that we offer students over the summer. So school at Perry is not just the nine month school year, we’re busy year round.”
That’s Perry Schools Superintendent Lynn Ubben who says a lot of kids took advantage of this summer’s programs.
“Amy McCord (was at the meeting) she coordinates the summer school program and tutoring, she did a nice job this summer. It looked like they had an average daily attendance of about 120 kids so that was good. Of course the (Perry’s Academic and Cultural Enrichment Services) program is going on and (Director) Mary Hillman always has a lot of neat things going on for kids. A lot of academics but also on Fridays she has some fun activities and provides experiences for kids that they may not otherwise have. Those are just two great programs.”
The third summer program that was outlined at Monday’s meeting was that of summer food service. Ubben says Director Gail McFarlin and her staff did a great job feeding both kids and families. Perry was also able to obtain a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that allowed them to give kids who took part in the nutrition program books to take home with them.
We will wrap up our conversation with Ubben on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
