Jefferson Fire DepartmentThe Jefferson Fire Department will be conducting a house fire training session this Saturday.

Fire Chief Randy Love says it will be at 107 South Olive Street.  He says his department and all fire departments in the County are invited to get hands-on training of how to handle a house fire properly.  He describes what kinds of training will take place that day.

“It gives a lot of our newer guys the experience of what actually happens in a house fire, how quick it goes, the layers of smoke inside the house, how to make sure that we got enough water there to make sure that we can maintain what we need to do as far as getting it put out or in this case letting it burn, but controlling the surroundings at least.”

For the surrounding houses, Love points out that it won’t be an issue, but he reminds people to not have their windows open for concerns of smoke possibly getting inside of their homes.

The building was recently purchased by the City and once in a while, the fire department is allowed to burn a home instead of the City demolishing it, for training purposes.  The training will start around 8am.  A wind date is scheduled for the following Saturday, August 29th.
