Perry Superintendent Encourages Residents to Get Out and Vote in the School Board Election
With twice as many names on the ballot as there are seats available on the Perry School Board, voters across the district will have decisions to make in just two short weeks.
Superintendent Lynn Ubben says it’s exciting to have so many people interested in serving on the Board.
“As long as you’re running because you enjoy the community and you enjoy the district and want to be around kids, and you want to add your expertise to the situation and help make things better, then you’ll be an awesome Board member. You know, every once in a while some board or somewhere will get someone with kind of an agenda that’s more personal and that kind of circumvents the great work that boards do.”
Ubben says this hasn’t been the case in the Perry district since she started here seven years ago but that doesn’t always work well.
She says it’s important for Board members to want to learn how school districts work and work as a team.
“You trust that people go out and vote and do the right thing for kids in their community and say ‘Look at these people, these would be some great leaders.’ So I certainly hope that they do get out and vote.”
Incumbents Kenia Alarcon and Jim Lutmer are both running for re-election, along with Linda Andorf, Susan Brelsford, Corey Eastman and Pete Malmberg, each seeking a first term on the Board.
School board elections take place Tuesday, Septmber 8th.
