One day ahead of the ADM varsity volleyball team’s first match, the 2015 roster has been set.
The Tigers’ 12-player roster features five seniors, two juniors, five sophomores and a good deal of inexperience. ADM will welcome in six first-time varsity participants after the team got a taste of outside competition with a seven-team scrimmage Saturday at Johnston High School.
Making the varsity team for the first time are sophomores Amy Gottschalk, Ellie Mueller and Sydney Canney, junior Brianna Heimann and seniors Montana Popp and Shannan Jones.
Jones dressed for the varsity team last season but did not play, instead playing at the junior varsity level. Popp was listed on last year’s varsity roster but also did not play; head coach Mary Beth Scott confirmed this will be Popp’s first time at the varsity level in any capacity.
Returning letter-winners with significant experience include seniors Brennan Hook and Tania Teleford, junior Sydney Bertman and sophomore Jordan Hook.

Finding consistent hitting will be the Tigers’ biggest potential weakness this season, as ADM returns just 17 percent of its kills last season (141 of 828), lead by Bertman’s 64.
To address that need, Scott followed through on her promise that certain players will switch positions from what they played last season. Jordan Hook, for example, was a standout libero as a freshman last season but is now an outside hitter.
ADM opens the season Tuesday night with an invitational at Newton against the host Cardinals, Dowling Catholic and Carlisle.
