The one home meet for the Greene County high school and middle school programs is being returned to Spring Lake State Park northeast of Jefferson. The coed event with some 20 different schools is set for Thursday, Sept. 10.

High school coach Kelly Simpson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the reasons for the change. “With the construction on the high school grounds with additional paving and dirt work, in the athletic facilities and other areas on the course, we really thought about the safety of the kids. We could try to run it one more year at the high school, but if the Sept. 8 bond issue passes, then we’re done running at the high school anyway. We could move it to Spring Lake, or not have it, and not having it would mean losing revenue from the meet, which basically funds our program for the season, so that wasn’t very attractive. It’s also our only home meet, so we looked at Spring Lake, where we used to run our meet years ago. They’ve cut nice, big, wide trails around the lake, so we’re going to take advantage of those trails and run around the lake.”
