The Greene County High School cross-country runners will be the first athletes from the school to compete in events that count on the season record for 2015. Coach Kelly Siimpson’s Rams go to the Iowa State University cross-country course on Thursday, Aug. 27 to take part in the Gilbert Coed Meet in Ames. It’s a JV/varsity girl/boy event with a 4:45 p.m. starting time.

In additional to Greene County and Gilbert, teams include Bondurant-Farrar, CMB (Baxter), Colo-Nesco, Eagle Grove, Earlham, Madrid, Nevada, North Polk (Alleman), PCM (Monroe), Roland-Story (Story City), Saydel (Des Moines), Shenandoah, South Hamilton (Jewell), Van Meter, West Marshall (State Center), Ankeny Christian Academy, Des Moines North, Dallas Center-Grimes, Perry, Newton, and Woodward Academy.

This is the first year Iowa high school girls will run five kilometers (3.1 miles), the same distance as the boys.
