The Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.
The Council discussed a proposed hotel/motel tax reimbursement criteria. The Council wanted to establish a set of guidelines that would allow what would and would not be reimbursed expenses for promotion of tourism through hotel/motel funds. After a lengthy discussion, Mayor Craig Berry wanted to schedule another meeting with the committee and include other non-profit entities to address concerns and possibly change the guidelines. No other action was taken by the Council.
The Council also approved a $58,480 contract to Hatch Construction for a waterline replacement project on Walnut Street between Mahlon and Central streets, a resolution to end the 2016 fiscal year transfers of $8,717 from the general fund to the owner-occupied housing assistance fund and $18,864.11 from debt service fund to pay off extra debt, an application for a Main Street Iowa Challenge Grant to restore 205 North Wilson, a $500 agreement with Region XII Council of Governments and requests for architectural services for a Community Development Block Grant for the City’s proposed downtown revitalization.

The Council set a public hearing for September 8th at 5:30pm to rezone lots two, three and four in the Greene County Development Corporation West Business Park from light industrial to highway commercial.
The meeting ended in a workshop with Jefferson Matters: Main Street. During the workshop, Program Director Peg Raney highlighted renovating the east alleyway by Doc’s Stadium, the silent auction for Pedaler’s Palooza, completing a market study and attending a downtown summit as current projects that they are doing.
