Former standout ADM football wide receiver Lane Hovey is hoping for an expanded role with the Nebraska Cornhuskers as the 2015 college football season approaches.
While his alma mater preps for its season opener Friday night at the Perry Blue Jays, Hovey will be hard at work trying to earn more playing time at wide receiver for the Cornhuskers, who open the season September 5 at home against BYU.
A key contributor to ADM’s state playoff run as a senior in 2011, Hovey’s work ethic and talent helped him walk on at Nebraska. He took a redshirt in his first year on campus in 2012, and saw action in two games as a sophomore in 2013.
Last season, Hovey appeared in every game and made five catches for 69 yards. He also made five tackles on special teams. And while Hovey continues to push for more action on the field, he’s done excellent work off it, having earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2014 and having been named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for 2015.
