With the start of the Iowa high school football season just one day away, anticipation continues to build for ADM fans as it pertains to what players will ultimately take the field as first-time varsity starters at a number of contested positions against the Perry Blue Jays on Friday.
The Tigers are dealing with something every program faces to one extent or another every season in roster turnover, and this offseason, they also experienced some changes to their coaching staff.
Enter Tyler Bohlke, a new chemistry teacher in the ADM school district who joined the football coaching staff as an assistant and the Tigers new strength coach.
Tigers head football coach Mike Whisner said he’s excited to have Bohlke on board because of Bohlke’s dedication to developing a more formal strength and conditioning program.
“Well, we’ve always had a strength program, but it was a little more the kids basically volunteered to come in,” Whisner said. “He brought in the youth and the energy and he’s right in there pushing them and keeping them going, and I think that’s really been a benefit. Not all the kids have bought in yet; we have some programs that don’t have a lot of kids involved, but we have a lot of kids involved as far as numbers. I mean, this summer we days where we had 120 kids going through the weight room.
“So really good numbers, and I think we’re just goint ot keep improving in that sense. He’s also an assistant football coach and he’s done a really great job for us, and I think it’s awesome that we have him on board.”
