Greene County opens the varsity high school football season tomorrow night in Lake City vs. Class 1A number nine South Central Calhoun. Yesterday, we took a look at a couple of the top returning players for the Titans, and today we do the same for the Rams.
Quarterback Daric Whipple is a three-year starter who threw for 816 yards in 10 games a season ago. he completed just over 50% of his pass attempts and had six touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. Whipple also ran for 303 yards, which is the most of any returning player.
Senior lineman Noah Juergensen is 6′ 5″, 225, and could be hard for opponents to deal with on both sides of the ball. A tackle on offense and an end on defense, Juergensen is one of the few players in the history of high school football based in Jefferson to start on the line of scrimmage on the varsity level as a ninth grader. Now in his fourth season, he’s a team leader on both sides of the ball.
The Rams and Titans face each other in non-district play on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
