Anyone who is taking care of a loved one or providing care for others is invited to learn how to make time for themselves with a class offered by Greene County Iowa State University Extension.
Extension Family Coordinator Sue Richardson says the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program is designed for participants to learn different skills and ways to take care of themselves while caring for loved ones. Topics to be covered include reducing stress, improving self-confidence, balancing life, better communication with feelings, increasing ability to make tough decisions and locating helpful resources. Richardson explains the importance of the class.
“A lot of people that get into that caregiving role don’t take care of themselves. They put all of their time and energy into caring for someone else. This class will give them the strategies that they need to help lessen that stress and keep their health in a better shape so they can take care of their loved one.”
The six-week course will be on Thursdays starting September 3rd from 5 to 7:30pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. There is a $30 fee, but financial assistance is available.
Call the Extension office at 386-2138 to sign up.
