Greene County put up 42 points and had 315 yards of offense, blocked a punt for a touchdown, and dominated the last 10 minutes of play on Saturday night in Lake City vs. South Central Calhoun. The 42-28 non-district victory over the number nine rated Class 1A preseason Titans was a good way for Coach Dean Lansman’s team to open the season and the Rams are hoping to keep the momentum going when they open the home season on Sept. 4 vs. Kuemper Catholic in Jefferson at Linduska Field. Greene County will be facing the 2A Knights, who lost in Carroll last Friday to Carroll High 24-7 to open the season. The Tigers were winners of 3A District 2 a season ago and figure to be strong contenders for the district title again this season.
Kuemper won the Class 2A State Championship in 2013, but fell to 4-6 last season. Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
