IMG_3700We would all like to think that something as disastrous as a fire could never happen to us, unfortunately that’s not true and it’s important for all of us to be prepared in case such an emergency happens.

Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds says one of the best things you can do as a family or business is make sure you know where everyone is when disaster strikes.

“One of the most important things when you get out of the house is to have a rendezvous point, or a meeting point.  Whether that be the tree in the front yard or we all meet at the fire hydrant at the corner or whatever, you have that meeting point and everybody in the family knows that that’s where you meet.  So if mom and dad get out there and little Suzie isn’t there, then they know she didn’t get out and when the firemen get there, they can say “Our daughter is still in there” because she didn’t come to the meeting point.”

Chief Hinds says of course it’s crucial that everyone communicates and knows where that meeting point is. He encourages families to at least talk about the plans once a month.

He’ll share more safety tips with us on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS and 99.7 FM.
