West Central Valley WildcatThere’s one contested race in today’s West Central Valley School Board election. Fifth District incumbent Director Dianne Harwood is running for reelection, but is facing a challenge from Jill Caltrider.

Harwood is finishing up her first four year term on the board and says if re elected, she’ll try to increase parental involvement in the school district. “We have some parents I know that are very busy and they work a lot. We still need them to support the school and support their kids. If the kids have that parental support, I think they do better in school and the test scores are higher. I just think it’s good for the entire family if everybody is involved in the school system.”

Caltrider wants to try and curb open enrollment. “The main thing I see the problem is open enrollment. I see we’re losing a lot of kids. I think we need to unite our school district as one. We seem to still be split as Stuart-Menlo and Dexfield. We need to make our school district more appealing for families moving in.”

Harwood and Caltrider will both join us today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County to talk about why they are the best candidate for District Five. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
