The ADM volleyball team’s 9-10 record is skewed because of one day, and it played out exactly as expected.

The Tigers went from three games above .500 to three games below it in a heartbeat September 5 at a tournament at Valley High School in West Des Moines, when ADM lost all six of its matches against difficult competition.

Head coach Mary Beth Scott said she knew the tournament would be a struggle for her squad, as the opposition included five Class-5A schools and defending Class 4A state champion Harlan.

Scott said she wasn’t at all concerned with how her team came out of the tournament record-wise, only the experienced they gained for it.

It appeared to pay off, as ADM bounced back from the rough day with a win over Perry last Tuesday and a victory over Creston two days later.

“Quality teams, and so we knew going in it was going to be tough, but like I told them, ‘I don’t really care about the score, I just care about your playing ability effort and you effort,'” Scott said of the Valley tournament. “After that, fortunately, we played Perry and Perry really gave us a great game, but we were able I think because we played such tough competition, we played well that night and were able to keep it together.”

ADM has the entire week off from competition and will return to play for a conference matchup with Ballard Tuesday in Adel.
