Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater recently attended the National Sheriff’s Institute in Aurora, Colorado. He says it was a very diverse learning environment with sheriffs from county seats as small as Greenfield to as large as San Antonio, Texas. Vandewater says the course is designed to teach first term sheriffs how to most effectively do their jobs. “It was a very in depth, deep thought type of class. We covered all kinds of topics. We talked about the sheriff as a leader, defining our leadership direction, self awareness, developing our executive team, power influence and conflict, how to deal with some of those. Also, ethics, the external environment and the office of the sheriff, fleeting change and leadership development plans.”
Vandewater will tell us more about his experience at the event today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
