The ADM football Tigers will hunt for a second district victory Friday night against the Winterset Huskies in Winterset.

The Tigers (3-1, 1-1) are coming off a huge win over Atlantic last week in which they ran the ball for a whopping 398 yards and passed for just 32. That had largely to do with the type of defense Atlantic was playing, and the Tigers took advantage.

Expect more of a balance between run and pass against a physical Huskies defense. As for the running backs, Zach Johnston had a career day  last week with 15 carries on 134 yards and four touchdowns against the Trojans, but Mike Whisner said he’ll continue to go with a three-to-four player rotation at running back.

“Well, the big thing is the teams we’re going to play, some of them still platoon [on defense], so we’ve got to have three running backs, four running backs to rotate in because two of them start on defense, so we’ll still rotate,” Whisner said. “I think [Johnston’s] the guy when we have to get something in short yardage, he’ll be in there.”

The two starters on defense include Johnston and Matt Dobrzynski, both at outside linebacker.

Winterset (1-3, 0-2) comes in losers of three straight, a streak in which they’ve allowed 118 points. Huskies head coach Zach Sweeney said the defense isn’t entirely to blame for the large amount of points allowed.

“Week three we were up in the first half and we thought if we could have got up that second score, maybe we could build up so momentum,” he said. “But since then we’ve lost the turnover battle and have not been good on special teams, and really put a defense in a tough situation.

“So giving the defense too many reps on the field and short field has not been a good formula for us with a lack of size against some of the teams we played during that streak.”

The Tigers and Huskies kickoff in Winterset at 7:30 p.m. Our pregame coverage on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 7.
