The Greene County and Perry high school football teams aren’t having the kind of seasons they envisioned when the calendar hit August, and the chances of either making the postseason aren’t great, but there’s still a lot to play for when the Blue Jays visit the Rams on Friday at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Why? Because it’s Cowbell Week! The Rotary Clubs from Jefferson and Perry donated an actual cowbell in 1928 and the bell has gone to the winning team ever since.

Perry is 0-6 and Greene County is 2-4 after the Rams started 2-0, but when the first whistle blows on Friday night, both teams will be striving to end the game with the cowbell on their sideline. Last year’s game went down to the last play when a potential game-tying field goal by the Blue Jays hit the crossbar and bounced backwards into the end zone and the Rams won by three points.

It’s hard to predict how this year’s game will end, but you can hear all the action on KG98, KDLS 1310 AM, FM translator 99.7. Coverage at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
