Healthiest-State-Walk-2015-logoGreene County and Paton-Churdan Schools are participating in the Iowa Healthiest State Walk initiative tomorrow.

This year’s theme is “Walk at the Whistle” in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week and organized fire drills throughout the state.  Greene County students are encouraged to walk or bike to school and teachers are invited to take students outside to walk during 5th period on Wednesday.

Paton-Churdan invites the community to join them for their 1K walk at 9am.  Principal Annie Smith says everyone will gather at the school in Churdan at 8:45am.  They will walk to the library and head back to the school.  She points out that they have a range of people join them for their annual event.

“Just to see the mass of people, young and old, from some of our youngest at four years-old all the way to upper 90’s that have walked with us.  Again, just that big family feeling that is that culture that we feel.  That just amplifies that so much more when the community shows their support as well.”

P-C is partnering with the City of Churdan, the Churdan Library and the freshman health class to put on this year’s event.
