Homecoming was a success for the Greene County High School football team. Coach Dean Lansman’s Rams were 35-0 victors over Perry in the annual Battle for the Cowbell, which stays in Jefferson for a second straight year. The victory improved Greene County to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Class 3A District 2, while the Blue Jays fell to 0-4 in the district and 0-7 overall.

The final home game of the season for the Rams is this Friday night with Boone visiting Linduska Field. The Toreadors lone win before last week was over Perry, but they surprised Algona 35-21 in Boone to improve to 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Junior quarterback Tanner Schminke threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns, and he also ran 18 times for 115 yards and another score to lead Boone’s offense.

Greene County quarterback Daric Whipple had similar numbers vs. Perry, throwing for 200 yards and four scores, and rushing for 75 more yards and a TD. Whipple left the game with the Blue Jays at the end of the third quarter.
