Everyone is invited to a free movie this weekend in Jefferson.
The Raccoon Valley Aktion Club is sponsoring a free showing of “Where Hope Grows” on Saturday at 2pm at the Sierra Community Theatre. The movie is about a professional baseball player who went into early retirement due to panic attacks. The ex-player finds encouragement through a grocery store employee called Produce, who has Down Syndrome. Co-Advisor Hollie Roberts describes the inspiration for the Aktion Club to sponsor the movie.
“Several of our members attended in May the Kiwanis convention in Indianapolis. And they were able to go to the movie, ‘Where Hope Grows’ and the meet the star David DeSanctis and the producer(and director) Chris Dowling.”
Roberts is very appreciative of the theater being able to show the movie for free admission. The Aktion Club is sponsored by the International Kiwanis Club and the organization is going into its seventh year. It is for people with disabilities. The Aktion Club helps the City of Jefferson with various projects and sells popcorn at every farmer’s market and at Bell Tower Festival. They recently donated $500 to replace the flags at the two cemeteries.
The Aktion Club is also hosting a Halloween party on October 25th from 2 to 4pm at the Jefferson Elks Lodge. Tickets are $2 or a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Greene County Action Resource Center.
