perry logoThe City of Perry may be looking to animals to help combat some over vegetation.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says he heard about a goat rental service while at a recent conference and feels it might be a good fit for Perry.

“They call it targeted grazing.  So we have a couple areas in some of our parks that are a little over grown with some obnoxious weeds.  So we’d fence that off, put the goats in there and the goals pretty much just eat everything in there.  So you can go in there and cut down the woody material and plant some native plants and grasses and what not, kind of reestablish some of our areas.”

Peterson says the area they’re most looking at using the goats for is the Frog Creek corridor in Pattee Park, where it is tough for the parks department to get to with their mowers.  Right now, the City is just in the exploratory stages of potentially utilizing this option.
