A new venue and some new competition awaits the cross-country runners from Greene County High School at today’s Class 3A State Qualifying Meet in Glenwood at Glenwood Lake Park. Coach Kelly Simpson’s runners will face Glenwood’s Rams, as well as teams from ADM, Atlantic, Clarke (Osceola) (girls’ only), Creston, Dallas Center-Grimes, Denison-Schleswig, Harlan, Kuemper Catholic, Perry, Saydel, and Winterset.

The top 15 girls and top 15 boys individually qualify for the Oct. 31 State Meet north of Ft. Dodge, and the top three teams in each race also qualify. On the girls’ side, Dallas Center-Grimes is ranked sixth.

Coach Simpson said junior Olivia Hansen and sophomore Emily Finch appear to have the best chances of qualifying for the State meet. “They’re kind of on that bubble on the outside trying to get in. So, if they run really well and pick up some kids at the end, they’ve got a shot at getting in there. In the other respect, if they don’t run well, they’re probably going to be somewhere from eighteenth-nineteenth to twenty up to twenty-five.”

The girls race is at 4 p.m. with the boys at 5:30 p.m. and awards are scheduled for 5 p.m.
