We’re just eight days away from the start of Iowa’s pheasant hunting season. The sport can be dangerous if hunters don’t follow safety guidelines. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Hunter Education Administrator Megan Wisecup says many accidents occur when hunters aren’t visible. “Not wearing enough blaze orange is a key factor as to why hunters are getting injured when pheasant hunting. We definitely want to stress to hunters, wear as much blaze orange as possible, so they can be seen by everyone.”
Iowa law requires pheasant hunters to wear at least one of the following articles of visible, external apparel, of which at least 50% of the surface area is solid blaze orange in color in the form of a hat, cap, vest, coat, jacket, sweatshirt, sweater, shirt or coveralls.
