logo-Iowa-DNRPheasant hunting season in Iowa opens in three days. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Hunter Education Administrator Megan Wisecup says a key to keeping this season a safe one is to be aware of your surroundings. “Remember your zone of fire. Where can you safely fire, depending on where the other members of your party are. You want to pay attention to that and also pay attention to your surroundings. When you’re out in a field, there’s farmhouses and feedlots with cattle and hogs. You want to know your surroundings and make sure there’s a safe distance or a backstop before you take your shot.”

Wisecup will provide more hunting safety tips today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
