Today Greene County middle and high school students will continue a long standing tradition by giving back to the community.
Instructor Teresa Green says students and volunteers will be out raking leaves in Jefferson, Scranton and Grand Junction. Last year, 863 students raked 128 yards. Eight adult volunteers helped chaperone the students, while three garbage trucks and another 32 pickups were used to haul the leaves to the yard waste site in Jefferson. This year, students will rake 131 lawns.
Green says students learn to give back to the community, along with building team work with their advisory groups and learning how to interact with community members while being good examples of role models.
Green appreciates everyone’s help from the students and staff, to the volunteers, drivers and those who donate items to make the event as successful as it is.
