guthrie county sheriffGun owners around the state are beginning to consider renewing their five-year concealed carry permit. The law allowing the permits went into effect January 1, 2011, so many permits will begin to expire early next year.

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving many questions about the renewal process and dispatcher Chuck Cleveland says it’s not as complicated as it seems. “Let’s say your permit expires at the end of January, you don’t have to take a renewal class. Just come in close to your expiration date, we’ll give out a permit to carry, and what we do is look up the original training they took five years ago and use that as their certificate and give them what we consider a new one, but they’re going to get a permit to carry. Some people think they have to take a renewal class and they actually don’t.”
