The annual Greene County 4-H Award ceremony is this weekend.

Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds says they will be giving out several awards including club awards, National 4-H Week awards and inspirational awards including the Junior Spark, Intermediate Flame and Stellar Senior awards.  She describes why they created these awards for 4-H’ers.

“Those are some of those awards that we came up with because there are a lot of great kids out there and we just want to thank them so much for continuing to be apart of 4-H and hope they recruit some new members just like them.”

Extension Director Lori Mannel says even though Sunday’s event is about the youth, it’s also about the adult volunteers as well.

“4-H really is only successful because of the strength of our leaders, the strength of those 4-H families (and) the collaboration we have with the (Greene County) Fair Board.  Without all these different people involved, 4-H just wouldn’t happen.”

Adult volunteers will also be recognized with service awards.

The free event will take place at the Greene County High School auditorium at 2pm on Sunday, with refreshments to follow.
