jefferson welcomeWith the first measurable snowfall predicted to happen today, Jefferson residents are reminded about the City’s snow removal ordinance.

In a snow event of at least one-half inch of snow, the City requires all property owners to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks.  The snow cannot be placed onto any street without permission from the City.  Snow must be removed within 12 hours after the snow has stopped falling.

City Administrator Mike Palmer talks about what residents could face if they don’t adhere to the ordinance.

“Typically you’ll get a notice to shovel it off.  Usually you just get one notice per year and if it keeps accumulating on your sidewalk, the City will go in and remove the snow and lien the property.  So I encourage people to get out there and please try to remove the snow as fast as you can.”

Raccoon Valley Radio will also notify the public whenever the snow ordinance goes into effect for Jefferson.

Call City Hall with any questions at 386-3111.
