Jefferson Police Reviews Process of Snow Ordinance Violators
Following the first snow storm of the year and some measureable snowfall predicted for today, the Jefferson Police Department would like to let residents know about their new process with the snow ordinance.
Police Chief Dave Morlan says the City Council recently changed the snow ordinance and removed the prohibited parking time period during a snow event. The change means that anytime there is at least one half inch of snow, vehicles must be moved from any street, alley or City-owned off street parking until the streets have been completely plowed.
Morlan says those who are first or second time violators will be issued a citation. The third or subsequent offense will result in the vehicle being towed. During the first snowfall between November 20th and 21st, officers issued 12 citations. Morlan adds that they will keep track of all snow ordinance violations.
The only exception during a snow event is parking around the downtown square. Parking is only prohibited on the square from 2 to 6am.
