Black Friday shopping wasn’t the only exciting event to occur last Friday. The afternoon after Thanksgiving gave college football fans a very exciting game to be thankful for as it was quite the grudge match.
Last Friday marked the annual Hy-Vee Heroes game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It’s an annual game that not only marks the end of the regular season, but a chance to give thanks to all the hero’s of the world; to give appreciation to where it belongs the most. It was certainly a special game that even had a little home town flare as former ADM football player Lane Hovey took part in the game.
Hovey is a Junior wide receiver for the Cornhuskers and has seen substantial playing time this season. He has certainly made the most of his opportunities as Hovey accumulated 11 receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown entering Friday’s contest. Unfortunately for Hovey and the Cornhuskers, they simply ran out of time and were defeated by the fourth ranked Iowa Hawkeyes by the final score of 28-20. Hovey did see playing time, although limited with 1 reception for 6 yards bringing his overall season numbers to 12 receptions for 158 yards and 1 touchdown.
Hovey will have one more shot at the Heroes trophy as next year marks his senior season at Nebraska.
