emergency managementWith near-freezing temperatures and icy conditions threatening the rest of the week, it’s safe to say that Indian summer has finally given way to winter.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says there are some simple tips to follow in order to stay warm this winter. “You need to wear several layers. Make sure you’ve got hats, mittens, gloves and things like that to prevent losing body heat. That, and staying hydrated. People don’t always realize that drinking water in the winter is just as important as in the summer, so you have moisture in your body tissue.”

Kempf reminds residents to limit skin exposure to the elements in order to prevent things like hypothermia and frostbite.
