Republican Presidential Candidate Garners Large Gathering in Jefferson

About 70 people attended an open forum in Jefferson on Friday afternoon for Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie.

The New Jersey Governor addressed the mass shooting in California last week as a terrorist attack, planned out by Isis and believes that America has to bring together allies around the world to help cut off resources to what he calls “Radical Islamic Jihadists” and increase intelligence capabilities to stop situations before they happen.

Christie spent most of his time answering questions from attendees on topics such as cyber security, improving global relationships and decreasing federal involvement in public education. He said the biggest thing that education needs is accountability from parents, teachers and administrators and he thinks the common core needs to be eliminated. Christie is trailing to other Republican candidates such as Donald Trump and Ben Carson and he told Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s hard work, not polls that he looks at.

“We’re 60-some days away from the caucuses and no one is voting for 60 days.  And traditionally, Iowans, between 50 and 65 percent of them decide within the last two weeks. So come to me two weeks away from the caucus and if I’m having polling difficulties at the time, then we can have a conversation.”

Christie also made trips to West Des Moines and Fort Dodge on Friday.
