As a reminder, Greene County 4-H’ers interested in showing market beef at the 2016 Greene County Fair, must attend this weekend’s weigh-in.
Greene County Extension Office Coordinator Laura Ballard says the weigh-ins are for livestock such as market heifers or steers to be shown at the county fair, Iowa State Fair or AK-SAR-BEN.
“So you do have to have a starting weight. You pick a standard date. You weigh your calves in and that’s your starting weight. And then you weigh them in the Wednesday of (county) fair week, when you come and bring them to the fairgrounds. And that’s how they’re going to use to figure rate of gains and those types of things.”
There’s no cost for ear tags, but there is a charge any 4-H’er who wants to show at the state fair or AK-SAR-BEN. The beef weigh-ins are at 1pm on Sunday at the fairgrounds in Jefferson.
