Nevada defeated Greene County twice in Jefferson during a rare Thursday night of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The number one ranked Class 3A girls from Nevada were 67-15 winners, while the Nevada boys won 64-47. The Cubs improved to 4-0 in the league and 5-1 overall on the girls’ side while the Rams fell to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the HOIAC. The Nevada boys are 3-1 overall and in conference play. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s Rams fell to 1-2 in the HOIAC and 1-3 overall.

Nevada’s girls held the Rams scoreless for the first 9:08 of the game. Eleven minutes and 22 seconds had been played before Greene County picked up its first field goal. Senior Nicole Rohner had five points to lead the Rams in scoring. Senior Katie Cassabaum scored 28 for the Cubs and did not score in the fourth quarter. The Cubs had just three turnovers for the game to 28 for the Rams.

On the boys’ side, Nevada led 19-9 after one quarter and went up 21-9 to start the second. Greene County tied the contest at 23-23 at the half. The Rams went up 36-30 with 4:35 to play in the third quarter and was out scored 34-11 the rest of the way. Senior Cole Gidell had 21 points for the Cubs and sophomore Matt Chitty added 20 after he entered the contest at less than three points per game.

The Rams had just one player score in double figures while four players fouled out. Reid Lamoureux had 14 points, 10 in the third quarter. Trey Tucker entered averaging 22.3, but was held to eight. Trey Hinote also had eight points, as did Max Neese. Tucker, Hinote, Tyler Beger, and Wade Adcock all fouled out.

The Greene County teams play in Gilbert on Tuesday, Dec. 15 with coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 with the boys to follow.
