A Des Moines woman is dead after a single vehicle accident occurred Saturday evening in Greene County.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that a 2005 Chevy Malibu driven by 20 year old Ashley Andrews, of Scranton, crashed on Highway 25 north of 280th Street just before 7 p.m.

A passenger, 20 year old Sydney Thomas, of Des Moines, attempted to reach the steering wheel to redirect the vehicle after it began to leave the roadway, but caused an over correction and led the vehicle to roll twice into the ditch.

Andrews was transported to Greene County Hospital by Scranton Fire Department with minor injuries. Thomas was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
