Guthrie Center Schools Superintendent Steve Smith is responding to concerns from residents about a proposed whole-grade sharing agreement with Adair-Casey Schools.
One common concern at a public hearing last week was about the lack of any financial or enrollment projections regarding the agreement. Smith says it’s too difficult to accurately predict how the scenario will unfold. “The comments that we had are legitimate concerns, regarding how much money the district will save. That’s difficult to know and some patrons struggle with not having a solid dollar figure. It is difficult when you don’t know who will open enroll in or out. We all know that in rural Iowa there are kids and families that are leaving for lack of jobs, relocation or other reasons.”
We’ll talk more about the proposed agreement with Smith today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
