Greene County Community CenterEarlier this month, the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board approved changes to a few policies at the Greene County Community Center.

One change was made to the tornado warning policy. The policy goes into effect when the tornado siren goes off in Jefferson, with all patrons taken to the locker rooms on the main floor until the “all clear” is given. Staff members will ignore any phone calls that come into the community center until everyone is in the locker rooms. The old policy didn’t say anything about keeping children inside the facility. A change was made so that anyone under 18 years-old is required to stay in the community center until the “all clear” is given for safety reasons.

The Board also made a slight change to the snowstorm policy. The community center will close during a snowstorm after 7:30pm if there are no patrons using the facility for 45 minutes.

Finally, the Board approved a new set of policies for a new TreadWall. This includes an orientation process with a staff member, anyone under 18 years-old must be supervised, a safety mat must be used at all times and only clean shoes or climbing shoes are permitted.
