Off to one of its best starts in decades, the Paton-Churdan High School boys’ basketball team is 8-1 under the direction of Coach Chris Stimson. The squad is in second place in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference behind undefeated Ar-We-Va. The two teams, both nicknamed Rockets, will meet in Westside on Tuesday, Jan. 5 in the first game of 2016.
P-C is averaging 58 points per game on offense and allowed just under 45 per contest. Senior Noah Juergensen averageg 17.4 points and 9.4 rebounds. He has blocked 26 shots and collected 16 steals. Juergensen is shooting 52.3% from the field and 67.6% from the free throw line. Sophomores Joe Towers and Jake Berns are the other double figures scorers for the Rockets, averaging 17.0 and 16.0 points, respectively. Towers is shooting 53.8% from three-point range and 48.7% overall while collecting 5.6 rebounds per games. He is at 76.7% on free throw attempts and also leads the team in assists (37) and steals (28). Berns 41.9% from the field, 71.7% from the foul line, and averages 4.4 rebounds per contest.
As a team, the Rockets are shooting 44.6% from the field overall and 35.2% on three-point attempts. They are making 72.2% from the free throw line.
