The Greene County High School wrestling team is suffering from a lack of numbers, but Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams are slowly getting a few more individuals into the lineup. For the first three weeks of the season, the Rams had four, five, or six of the 14 weight classes full. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s hopeful to fill seven or eight weight classes once the schedule resumes vs. South Hamilton and PCM (Monroe) in Jewell on Jan. 7.

The numbers appear to be the lowest in the 50 years the sport has been in Jefferson. “With the low numbers it’s really difficult winning dual meets because we have to forfeit so many weight classes, so we put the emphasis on helping each individual get better. The kids have done a great job so far and we’ve actually won more matches on the mat than we’ve lost.”

Senior Tommy Bradshaw leads the way with an 11-0 record and a number four ranking in Class 2A at 152 lbs. by The Predicament. Other Rams with winning records at the break are senior Mark Kendall (170), sophomore Kane Borgeson (113), sophomore Cayden Gerdes (132), and junior Isaiah Yoder (160).
