The Iowa State Patrol spent a considerable amount of time in Greene County on new year’s day.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s office, a deputy and a State Trooper responded to a call about an abandoned vehicle in a ditch in the 800 block of N Avenue at 12:46am Friday. Sheriff Steve Haupert says a resident called authorities about a man allegedly knocking at the back of her door in the same location. Upon their arrival, the Trooper arrested 77 year-old Don Eugene Wallace of Churdan and charged him with a subsequent felony offense for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The other incident happened at 7:25pm. A State Trooper tried to pull over 31 year-old Blaine Matthew Stockwell of Laurens for allegedly running a stop sign. According to the report, Stockwell, took off at a high rate of speed. He lost control of his 2001 Pontiac Grand AM, heading south on C Avenue and slid it into the east ditch near 240th Street. Stockwell was arrested and charged with a felony for eluding and misdemeanors for speeding, failure to obey a stop sign, no proof of registration and driving with a suspended license.

No injuries were reported in either incident. Both Wallace and Stockwell were booked into the Greene County Jail and released on their own recognizance.
