jefferson welcomeWith the possibility of snow this weekend, Jefferson residents are reminded about the snow ordinance.

Interim Police Chief Mark Clouse says anytime there is at least one half inch of snow, the City’s snow ordinance goes into effect 24-hours a day until the snow stops falling and/or the plows have cleared the roads curb to curb.

“Now our officers will wait until the snow plows come out, and they’ll give them a head start, and then they’ll start checking for violations. We generally will not issue a snow emergency citation until the plow has actually gone around the vehicle.”

Violators of the ordinance will be issued a citation and a fine of $50, plus another $8 for court costs. Clouse points out that officers will issue two citations and on the third or subsequent violation, the vehicle will be towed.

Clouse adds that the goal of the snow emergency ordinance is to make sure the roads are cleared and safe for the motoring public to travel on.
