Police Chief Mark ClouseMark Clouse recently became Jefferson’s new Police Chief.

The Bagley native moved to Jefferson after marrying his wife Jan in 1985. They briefly moved to Minnesota to be closer to her family before moving back to Jefferson in 1990. He then worked in construction for a while and joined the police department as a reserve officer in 2000. He was hired on as a full time patrol officer in 2003 and promoted to sergeant in 2006. Clouse briefly left the department in 2011 and joined the Greene County Sheriff’s office as chief deputy for a year before coming back to the police department as captain.

Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio why he wanted to go into law enforcement.

“The reason we come to law enforcement is a desire to help people, a desire to make our community a better place to live for our children and everyone in our community. There’s more than just stopping vehicles, writing tickets and arresting people, there’s so much more than that. The other side of that is what most people are in law enforcement for.”

Clouse adds that he’s looking forward to the day-to-day challenges as chief and points out that he has an “open door policy” for both his officers and the public to discuss anything they would like to in regards to public safety and law enforcement.

Clouse was officially appointed as chief at the last city council meeting on January 12th.

You can hear more with Clouse on today’s Let’s Talk Greene County program that airs during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on KGRA.
